In the Bag
Martin und Robert Klüsener provide insight into the history of Cologne's cult label Feuerwear.
Cologne, November 2011 - Feuerwear began in 2005 as a diploma thesis project. Since then the label has been using sustainable methods to produce high quality bags and accessories made of used fire hoses. A brief summary: In a three part company history, Feuerwear's managing directors Martin and Robert Klüsener discuss the company's beginnings, go into the production process of their unique products and explain their recipe for success.
Martin Klüsener hand made the first bags in his parent's basement as part of his final thesis and now, six years later, Feuerwear sells around 40,000 one-of-a-kind articles made of used fire hoses annually. Belts, wallets and key chains have been added to the collection to compliment the Cologne label's distinctive bags.
Three Steps to Success
The company portrait can be divided into three parts: "From Design Student to Entrepreneur" discusses Feuerwear's establishment and development of the label by founder Martin Klüsener. Specialized know how is necessary to work with the robust fire hoses. The second section, "From Fire Hose to Bag" follows the hoses from the fire station to their rebirth as a finished, upcycled product.
A large part of Feuerwear's success can be accredited to Robert Klüsener and his decision to join the company as the second managing director. In "High-End and Reliable Quality" the company founder's older brother explains what has come to set the company apart.
